Movie Review: Seetha Payanam

Seetha ( Aishwarya Arjun) is the daughter of a business tycoon ( Sathyaraj) who brought her up lovingly after the death of her mother.  This establishes a very close bond between the duo.

One day, en route to a cooking class in a star hotel, Seetha encounters a young man (Niranjan) who asks her for a lift. On this journey on a highway, she meets several people from a mercenary killer ( Arjun in  guest role)  to a young fruitseller, to a boy with a cow and the large joint family of the young man,  apart from disable students and  a couple who are going for a divorce.

But at her destination, a disaster strikes, which changes her entire worldview. She now decides to go back and meet every person she encountered that day.

Why does she do this? What happens as a result? Who is the young man she met? How does that day change her life?

The film throws light on several aspects of life and relationships, parent vs children, the issues surrounding marriage in the modern world, the significance of family bonds and the importance of dialogue, new perspectives and communication.

Aishwarya is the perfect choice for the role, charmimg and beautiful and gives the innocent yet intelligent vibe suited for the role. Her expressions are on point and the chemistry and camaraderie with hero Niranjan are well brought out.

Niranjan has a layered role, the sognificance of which comes out later in the story and he he lends credibility to his role with his performance.

Arjun in a guest role and Dhruv Sarja in a cameo, enhance the viewing experience with their magnetic presence while Prakash Raj is superb  as the family patriarch, in a positive role this time.

The scenes between Arjun and Aishwarya stand out with the emotional heft, with Arjun conveying more than words can say just with his eyes and expressions.

The visuals are pleasant, the bgm is adequate. The rich set designs are on par with the theme of the film.  The visuals of the songs stand out as well.

On the flip side, the film is mostly a travel journey with lot of dialogues and close-ups which may seem a tad monotonous at times. Many scenes seem a tad too saccharine sweet to be believable.

Overall, the film, with its several social messages, and family flavour, makes for a pleasant watch for family audiences.

Rating 3/5
