Web Series Review : Mammatiyaan Stars

 The web series Mammatiyaan Stars revolves around the lives of 4 friends ( Vaibhav Murugesan, Lavanya Anbazhagan, Venkeda Balamurali, Jagabar Sathik) who are crazy about cricket and Dhoni in particular. Even their village folk love the game.

The 3 boys decide to leave their village and head for Chennai in order to witness the last match of Dhoni. Since they dont have funds they resprt to nefarious means to obtain the money. Lavanya also joins this trip as she  wants to explore a new world.

Howver, the friends land up in trouble in the big city as things dont go according to plan.

 What happens to them? Do they ever see Dhoni? What dangers do they land in? 


 The series deserves kudos for an unusual subject. The makers have chosen a popular sport and explored the pitfalls and dangers youth can fall into, when their passion pushes them into wrong paths. This aspect is well brought out. From fake ticket scams to betting scams, the serial showcases it all. The aspirations of youth are also well brought out.

However the series takes its own time to unfold and the beginning episodes require patience. But once the boys land in Chennai things speed up and the screenplay races ahead.


But again, the editing team could have worked better to snip out sequences which slow down things, as in the betting parlour portions. Though those scenes are gripping ( especially the parts with Lavanya proving her mettle) and could be an eye opener  for youngsters and parents, things get  repetitive many a time.

All the actors have done a good job and shine in the portrayals of the youth who realise the error of their ways. Lavanya shines with her performance and fits the bill totally. Even the supporting cast is well chosen and their presence adds to the film. 

Overall, if you can get past the slower parts and have a keen interest in sports based entertainment, then Mammatiyaan Stars is for you.

 SI Adhyaman ( Samuthirakani ) investigates a gruesome twin murder of 2 couples in a village. While his superiors dismiss his intelligence, his senior officer Lakshmi ( Sshivada ) believes in him and makes him part of a special team to nab the culprits. Thanks to Adhyaman's skills the task force manages to trace possible suspects in a hamlet in a border town in Andhra Pradesh.
