Movie Review: Magudam

 The story revolves around a young man Kirubakaran ( Vishal) a medical rep, living a happy life with a wife ( Dushara Vijayayan) and two kids.  One fine day, their lives are shattered by the killing of his wife and daughter. A distraught Kiruba discovers the unplatable truth behind the murders, which take him back in time,  and his connection to his father Linga (Vishal) a dreaded don with a golden heart. Kiruba hates his father, blaming him for the death of his mother ( Anjali).


Is his hatred justified? Who is behind the murder of his  mother, wife and child? Does he ever find out the truth? Does he avenge the deaths?

Vishal and Dushara make a fine screen pair in the first half and the portions with them and their kids along with the light-hearted portions, with Thambi Ramaiah are laced with humor. 

But things get serious,once Linga enters the scene. However, the romance portions wooing  Anjali brings relief with comedy and song and dance, before the war between the dons and various factions begins.

Vishal does well in both roles, instilling terror as Linga and a touch of innocence as the emotional Kiruba. Anjali's portions stand out thanks to her energetic performance, while Dushara too brings her confidence and natural touch which enhances those portions as well.


However, the length of the over 3 hour film doesnt quite work in its favour as many portiins seem stretched and could have done with some editing. Several action blocks though gripping, begin to feel dated after a while.  The climx fight seems too lengthy and repetitive after a while,  with sound levels a tad too high. 

A mass commercial film which could have done with some trimming and a more contemporary touch, Magudam is engaging in parts, with Vishal's dual role being a highlight.

 SI Adhyaman ( Samuthirakani ) investigates a gruesome twin murder of 2 couples in a village. While his superiors dismiss his intelligence, his senior officer Lakshmi ( Sshivada ) believes in him and makes him part of a special team to nab the culprits. Thanks to Adhyaman's skills the task force manages to trace possible suspects in a hamlet in a border town in Andhra Pradesh.
