Movie Review: Pani

Giri ( Joju George), and his  brothers along with brother-in-law are a close knit family.  The men indulge in various businesses but are also feared as powerful men in their circles who would stop at nothing for their gain.

One day a tragedy befalls the family when Giti's wife Gowri ( Abinaya Anand) is assaulted and  molested inside their home by 2  ruthless young boys who have ambitions to become big criminals.

The entire family and the cops area hot on the heels of the criminals who are bold and unpredictable in their moves,  making them difficult to track. As the hunt for them begins, more surprises await the bereaved family. Does Giri get his revenge? Are the culprits brought  to justice?

The film is a racy  thriller, with the cat and z mouse games between the cops, criminals and Giri, keeping you rivetted to the screen.

Joju George who has directed and acted,  has done a remarkable peeformance which is measured and powerful. The unbridled rage he conveys through his eyes and body language and the love and pain for his wife are brought out in a superb performance.Abinaya as his wife brings  a quiet energy to her role and is perfectly cast, giving a finely honed performance.

The two  young villains Junaiz and Sagar Surya are perfectly cast and instil fear with their remorseless, deadly and raw expressions and  body language and dialogues.

All the supporting cast have done a fine job.

There are ample twists in the tale to keep you rivetted in this edge of the seat crime drama.
Watch out for the car chase scenes between Joju and the criminals apart from the several well executed action blocks.

The visuals are good and Santhosh Narayanan does a good job with the music though y the bgm does get a tad shrill in places.

On the flip side, there are a few logical loopholes and unanswered questions. The blood and gore and the raw violence in several scenes make it tough to watch at and are disturbing. The molestation scene could have been more sensitively handled.

Overall, with its grand making, solid casting, sound performances,  ample twists, thrilling elements, suspense and an  emotional angle, Pani makes for an engaging thriller.
