Move Review: Gangers
Malaiarasan lives with his grand daughter Sujitha ( Catherine Tresa) a school teacher who is not scared of speaking up for the truth and justice. This gets her into the bad books of a local bigwig politico ( mime Gopi).
Singaram ( Vadivelu) the school PT master has a soft corner for Sujitha. But she prefers the new PT master Saravanan ( Sundar C).
In the meanwhile, there are nefarious drug activities amongst the school boys, and even a student, Ramya, is missing. Who is behind all of this? Her search for the truth puts Sujitha's life in danger. But to her relief and surprise Saravanan comes to her rescue, saving her life.
Who is Saravanan? Is he really just a school teacher? What is the reason behind him coming to this school? Does he find the perpetrators of the crimes? What plans she's he actually have and why?
The first half of the film gets you in touch with the several characters and sets the backdrop of what's to follow in the action-packed and rollicking second half.
The much awaited teaming up of Sundar C and Vadivelu after many years, sets expectations high which the film fulfils. Wihile the first half is full of references to Vadivelu's past looks and has his witty, trademark counter dialogues, the film takes up the fun several notches higher with a rollicking pre climax portion that is both edge of the seat thrilling as well as hikarious.
Sundar C goes all out with a plethora of fun comedy actors but it's Bagavathy Perumal who steals the show in the climax segment with a superb act alongside Vadivelu.
Vadivelu delivers yet another impactful performance, his various get ups and counters eliciting ample laughs
Sundar C 's action blocks are pack a strong punch, be it in the factory, in the bar scene and many others.
Catherine Tresa brings a feisty energy to the screen and looks does a fine job. Watch for the backstory portions and a surprise cameo by an actor and perhaps a hint of a sequel.
On the flip side, the stunt and chase scenes involving the heroines seem a tad gruesome and violent to watch as they are pummelled, kicked and beaten with rods and logs amongst other things, which could have been toned down or avoided.
Overall, Gangers is a laugh -a-minute money heist comedy in typical Sundar C style, a fun-filled summer family entertainer, with Vaduvelu's trademark energetic performance along with a plethora of comic actors, taking the viewer on a hilarious joy ride.
