Movie Review: Tere Ishk Mein
Shankar ( Dhanush) is the IAF's ace fighter pilot. But in one important mission in Ladakh, he is grounded due to not following instructions. As a result he has to get counselling and approval from the defense psychologist Mukti ( Kriti Sanon) incharge.
But when he meets Mukti he freezes, unable to contain the surge of emotions. Who is Mukti? What is their relationship? Why is she in Leh despite being 9 months pregnant? How does her presence impact Shankar's life?
The film is an intense love story with a difference and takes its own time to unfold but grips you in a most engaging way, at every step.
Anand L Rai has stupendously and painstakingly fleshed out each of his characters, from Mukti and Shankar to Raghav, (Prakash Raj), his father and even Shankar's friend in a way that you get involved with their stories, feelings and emotions.
The film takes you on emotional highs in several places and makes you feel what the characters are undergoing. And this is possible through well written dialogues, scenes and fleshed out characters and above all, due to the spectacular performances of Dhanush as Shankar and the perfect foil, Kriti Sanon as Mukti.
Dhanush is electrifying as the live wire Shankar, gets into the skin of his character and brings to life his pain, frusration, love and betrayal most perfectly. He transforms himself from student to besotted lover to fightet pilot with tremendous ease and conviction in an outstanding performance, proving yet again his screen presence, and outstanding mettle as a National Award winner.
For Kriti Sanon, it's a most different role from the usual and she delivers a terrific performance from beginning to end, in perhaps a career best performance to date.
The music by AR Rahman elevates the film and the bgm only comes to life when needed without imposing, and allows scenes to breathe on their own, which is a big plus. The visuals are outstanding. The sound department deserves kudos as well.
The non linear narration is a plus as it keeps up the suspense factor.
The dialogues dont follow set templates and the the film is dotted many interesting situations and scenes which keep you hooked.
On the flip side, the film is dialogue heavy. Many situations may seem unfathomable or cinematic and unreal but the film pulls through thanks to the sincere and convincing performances and rare chemistry of Dhanush and Kriti.
An emotional roller coaster ride, Tere Ishk Mein makes for a terrific, engrossing watch.
