Movie Review : Dear Radhi

Madhan is a young man who is awkward around women. When he meets a sex worker Radhi, via a friend, he requests her to spend a day with him in order to understand women better.

She agrees and flees the lodge where she works to spend time with him.  Unbeknownst to the duo however, a gangster Varada is hot im pursuit of Radhi, who he claims  is his wife.

As Radhi and Madhan spend the day together, he learns a lot about her and falls in love with her.

But Varada has other plans What is Radhi's backstory? Does Madhan find true love?

The film takes time to set its premise and starts off with long monologues and flashbacks by Madhan, which test your patience after a while.  The same old, oft heard cinema dialogues like how tough it is to understand women and what an enigma they are compared to men,  continue to  jar, with nothing new to offer.

The  rambling screenplay which is supposed to have twists with the  various characters and their quirks, only adds to confusion and fails to keep your attention as it meanders with scenes that should have been edited more crisply. Random shootings ( like at the lodge) and lines like the hero's secret desires to  'go nude on a bike ride' seem to be added just for effect.

The heroine  has  done a good job with a noteworthy performance and is perhaps the lone reason for keeping the viewer interested in the proceedings.

The filmmaker seems to want to convey a few  social messages which he manages to do through various dialogues. But the  long drawn out manner  of putting it all together could have been better handled. The constant breaking of the fourth wall and hero speaking to audience doesn't work well.

Overall a film with an interesting premise, which could have done with more in depth writing and crisper screenplay. Watch out for the twist at the end.
