Movie Review: Kadhal Reset Repeat
Aditi ( Jiya Shankar) loves music and with her lover Harry ( Arjun Ashokan) the duo dream of taking part in a Scottish competition. But when her rich tea estate owner dad ( Jayaprakash) forces her for marriage, she escapes to Scotland.
But there, tragedy strikes when she tries to commit suicide at Harry's beyrayal but she survives, only to develop andrograde amnesia due to the impact of her fall.
At this time, her well wisher from childhood, Siddharth (Madhumkesh) is the one who saves her and nurses her back to health, aided by a kind shopowner ( MS Bhaskar).
What happens next? Does Aditi get back her memory? Does she get to know of Harry's betrayal and Siddharth's true love?
Director Vijay has woven a love story which gives off the vibes of of old school romance, given the levels of sacrifice by the hero, the long wait with no thought of returned love, and the idyllic surroundings of pittoresque Scotland.
Jiya Shankar is a superb find in her Kollywood debut and carries the film on her shoulders with her beautiful looks, expressive visage and her ability to get into the skin of the character and to give a superb performance with effortless ease.
Arjun from Mollywood could have been better utlilised, but delivers a neat act as a dishonest lover. Madukesh as Siddharth has a full length role which he does full justice to. However, the full time serious expressions accorded to him, give off a monotonous feel at times.
Jayaprakash has been well cast as the dad, giving off the right vibes to his role. MS Bhaskar's presence adds greatly to the film.
The camerawork is noteworthy, bringing to life the vast beauty of the Scottish landscape, drawing the viewer into the world of its characters.
The screenplay is largely well paced out and the movie proceeds at a swift pace. The unexpected climax is to watch out for, though it may elicit a mixed response.
Overall an old world kind of romance, with sacrifice and timeless unconditional love, from director Vijay.
