Movie Review: Parimala And Co

Parimala ( Jayaram) and Suthandhiram (Urvashi) are a middle class couple living with their daughters Parasakthi ( Sanjana) and Madhumitha (Ananthika Sanilkumar) and doggie Tina.

The family is tortured by a local drug dealer and gangster Varghese ( Sandy Master) who wants to marry both the girls. The family threatens, him but he is unfazed.

One day  Varghese is found killed. An Inspector Emperuman ( Mysskin) investigates suspects. Slowly the family comes into his cross hairs and are terrified as each of them suspects the other has had Verghese killed.

Who is actually behind the murder?

The film is a whodunnit laced with oddles of dark comedy and suspense filled moments.

The highlight of the film are the performances of every actor. Urvashi and Jayaram shine in a top notch act, while Mysskin delivers a measured, impactful performance in a meaty role that will surprise you as layers of the story peel off. While Yogi Babu looks good in a different role and wardrobe, he is largely underutilsed. ( His name Uyirulag seemingly referring to Nayanthara's twins, comes across to in poor taste by the makers. Did they think it was, funny?) Sandy Master is fantastic as the drug dealer, while Renuka playing his mom delivers a fine act. For actor Sobhan the cameo role seems a poorly written one and a step down after the Couple Friendly success.

Ananthika and Sanjana make a mark with theur no holds barred, fiery performances and one wishes to see more of them in screen in future films.

Though the film could have done with trimming of few scenes that feel repetitive, overall Pandiraaj manages to keep the film together, engaging the audiences with twists at every corner.

With a noble message and an emotional turn, despite few logical loopholes, the dark comedy largely works as a quirky,  fun and entertaining watch with an unusal plot and superb performances.
