Movie Review : Mudhalkanal
Surya ( Arvind Viswanathan) a young student from the city, is taken by his father to his native village where he meets Pandi ( Rajesh). Pandi's mom, a widow is the schoolmate of Surya's father.
Pandi doesnt like studies unlike Surya and has a difficult relationship with his mother, unlike Surya who is studious and comes from a loving family. But the duo become good friends.
During his stay, Pandi induces the drug habit into Surya and soon this begins to destroy his relationship with his little sister and parents when he goes back home.
He soon becomes a total addict leaving his parents distraught. What happens next? Is he ever able to get over his addiction?
The film gives a good insight into young minds and how youngsters can get addicted to drugs in todays world where things are easily available. The director takes the viewer through the minds of teenagers from different stratas and backgrounds, their emotional journeys and also points out the importance of proper communication with kids and close monitoring of changing habits.
Through the story, the filmmaker showcases the emotional impact on helpless family members and how entire future of even studious kids can be wiped out.
The making gives good detailing which is a plus. The film also points at solutions and a ray of hope which seems to show committment to the cause by the team.
The actors Arvind and Rajesh have done a fine job, rendering very credible performances.
The making is good, as are visuals and music.
At times the screenplay may lag and few actors seem melodramatic.
But the film has its heart in the right place, and is an eye opener watch for families and youth alike.
