Movie Review : All Pass

Alagappar ( Jayaprakash) and his family live in harmony with two friends and their families in a lower middle class family apartment. They are  are a very close-knitted trio who live in 3 flats next to each other, with their spouses and kids.

One day the  three teenage boys, from  their 3 families, discover around 5 crores,  in an old factory and bring it home. Only Alagappar is against this act and chastises them to return it, but the rest of them decide to keep the money. 

A local MLA ( Sharath Lohitashwa) and bigwig to whom the illicit funds belong is  furious and vows to find his money. He is certain someone in the Alagappar's apartment block has the funds and tries various methods to find the culprit. He knows they are bound to start spending the money and waits for the thieves to reveal themselves. He is helped in the task by the local councillor.

But once the money comes, their problems start mounting. Instead of enjoying the money they end up in fear off being caught.  Their unity is threatened by mistrust. The wedding of their daughter Priya ( Janany Kunaseelan) to Karthi (Dushyanth Jayaprakash) gets jeopardised when Karthi discovers the way Priya,has treated Alagappar who treats her like a daughter

 What happens to the 3 families? Do they ever unite? Does the MLA find the culprits?

 The film directed by Mydeen has a beautiful messsage of unity and trust wining over greed, mistrust and the ill effects of covetting what doesnt belong to you.

The unity amongst the 3 families who are not related by blood, but thrive on unity and good values, is well brought out through various little situations, which are light hearted yet emotional at times. 

The build -up of tension as the plot proceeds and the subsequent result on the unity of the family are well presented.

Several scenes stand out, like the tense family discussion after the money is brought home, the views of each person, the troubles tbat start subsequently, the various plans the members make to spend the money to name a few.

The message of the film conveyed via Alagappar without any preaching and  the key scene between Priya and Karthi are highlights of the film. Dushyanth has delivered a noteworthy act in a key role while veteran actor Jayaprakash, brings a gravitas and sincerity to his performance which makes what he says authentic and credible on screen and therefore all the more effective.

Sharath Lohitashwa 's towering presence adds to elevating the tension. 

The well written, crisp but effective dialogues are a strong point of the film. James Vasanthan's music adds value and the set design despartment deserves kudos.

The crisp runtime is a big plus for the film, as are light- hearted scenes and emotional scenes that keep the balance without going down melodrama lane.

However, A few scenes of violence could have been toned down. The English title too, doesnt seem to relate to the film and gives you no clue as to the actual nature of the film. One wishes it could have been more aptly chosen.

Overall a neat, crisp, engaging and clean family entertainer, with a good social message.
