Movie Review : Haiku
The story revolves around Manohar (Aegan), who gets rusticated from college over an issue. Later, he joins a women’s college as its first male student. There he falls in love with Pavazhakodi (Sridevi). But due to several reasons, they break up.
Later in life, when he joins the workforce, he shares a good relationship with a colleague, Nivedha ( Femina George), which helps him take a overview of his own past and unlearn many things, and gain a deeper understanding of relationships.
How he navigates his various relationships, grows emotionally, overcoming negative feelings like possessiveness and his biases, understands the intricacies of life, love and heartbreak and gains emotional maturity is what the film is all about.
The film presents a refreshing overview of modern day love and relationships, with characters that seem relatable, played by a talented cast, impressing with noteworthy performances.
The film has a positive message of personal growth and transformation, which is another plus.
The chemistry of Aegan and Sridevi and their college romance, works out well on screen. When they have a fallout, the film explores the pitfalls of not valuing a partner's individuality and brings to the fore quite effectively, the value of trust and communication which are an invaluable foundation of love.
With the character of Nivedha, director Chinnasamy unravels the layers of each relationship and how one can learn from each others experiences and mistakes and through self-evaluation, overcome toxic personality traits. Both Aegan and Femina deliver top-notch performances, adding to the charm of this relationship drama.
However, at times certain instances could have been better portrayed in a more contemprary manner instead of the usual seen on screen. At certain times, one of left with more questions than answers.
Siddhu Kumar's music aids the plot as it unfolds, aiding greatly the narrative.
The film doesnt try to justify flaws in the hero and refreshingly gives importance to personal and emotional growth, and the significance of learning at every stage in life, so that life turns into a beautiful journey.
An engaging, contemporary relationship drama.
