Nayanthara's Kolaiyuthir Kaalam ready for release

by Rinku Gupta The Nayanthara starrer Kolaiyuthir Kaalam is readying for release.   Shot majorly in England the film is a thriller produced by Etcetera Entertainment and StarPolaris Pictures LLP.  The film is directed by Chakri Toleti who could not attend the press meet as he was in the US. The heroine Nayanthara, though absent at the event, came in for much praise from the guests present. Dignitaries present included Radha Ravi, Sai Priya Dev, Suresh Kamatchi, Pravin Kanth, Karu Palaniappan, Durai,  Rajshri Ponappan and producer V Mathialagan amongst others. After several speeches and counter replies regarding the problems within the  producer council by Suresh Kamatchi, Pravin Kanth and Durai, Karu Palaniappan  and Radha Ravi tried to lighten the tense mood and urged producers not to bring these  issues to a film event in the public eye. Kee - a film on dangers of social media

by Rinku Gupta M Seraphin Raya Xavier's  production Kee directed by Kalees and with  camerawork  by Abhinandan Ramanujam is ready for release after a long wait. The director has researched the techno thriller project for 5 years.  At a press meet,  apart from a song, a clipping of an important part of the film was shown. The main villain is Govind Padmasuriya, an actor  from Kerala. Said he, ' Its an intense character and the best I've done  so far. When Kalees called me he said it will be  different image from your Kerala films. He had great clarity before shoot and made a teaser and showed me. His confidence impressed me along with the clarity of vision. Working with Jiiva changed from fan moment to friend moment! Nikki I knew as I had hosted shows before. Emotional success meet for Nedunalvaadai team

by Rinku Gupta After the superb public response to direcror Selvakannan's Nedunalvaadai, the team held a succes meet recently. Poet Vairamuthu who has written the much appreciated songs, was present at the event, as was heroine Anjali Nair and hero Ilango. Both the hero and the director recounted how they had met Vairamuthu earlier on in thier lives and how he was an inspiration to them to pursue their  film dreams, with his encouraging words. Heroine Anjali thanked her parents along with the team and recounted that  she never imagined that the film would achieve such kudos from the public. Ilango also thanked Mime Gopi, who had shown his photo to the casting team due to which he was finally selected for a role and a career that has changed his life forever. Director Selvakannan said he was thrilled to have Vairamuthu's lyrics in his film which for him was the biggest achievemnt in his life.

He is pitted quite by chance against  a powerful  and ruthless politician  Shakuntala Devi ( Madhubala) after a murder happens at a public place in broad daylight. Agni manages to join the dots after a series of clues and witnesses keep appearing and giving him leads to solve the case  However, his boss ( Bose Venkat) is eager to wean him off the case which somehow leads up to the corrupt , scheming and greedy politician Devi,  who will quell any insubordination with an iron hand. Agni is unstoppable and vows to expose the baddies. In this game of one upmanship, who will win and at what cost? While Bobby Simhaa fits effortlessly into his syern, thinking cop look,   Madhubala' s expressions go mostly over the top, both distractin, and bordering on unintentionally comical at certain places. When her fiance Aditya ( Thakur Anoop Singh) returns to the room he finds her missing. Tense moments later he manages to reach her on the mobile and she  reveals that  shes caught in the trunk of a moving car  while escaping from the goons who spotted her filming thier crime and want the proof back. From then begins a cat and mouse game of a chase between Aditya searching for his love, who gets into the clutches of the evil kingpin Dharmendra ( Kabir Duhan Singh). The story centres around a young girl Jaya ( Radhika Preethi) who falls love with a doctor called Priyan ( Rejith Menon) though he has no clue about it. She lives with her granddad ( Mouli) who is s temple priest. By the time she is able to declare her love for Priyan, tragedy strikes. Her grandfather dies and she goes into a comatose state. In the meantime Priyan finds strange  dreams recurring daily and troubling him. Does he find a solution to his problem? How is it linked with Jaya? Do the youngsters unite ? Radhika Preethi looks pretty and  innocent just as she is meant to be. She fits the role well. Rejith as the doctor does justice to what is required of him. The both of them make a goid pair. Boney Kapoor to remake Badhaai Ho in Southern languages

Producer Boney Kapoor who launched director Amit Sharma has now bought the South Indian language rights of the filmmaker's recent blockbuster Badhaai Ho. The sleeper hit jointly produced by Junglee pictures & Chrome pictures had a dream run at the box office with 100 glorious days in theatres,not to mention Global collections of more than 200 crores. Boney Kapoor who put his faith in the director and launched him in Tevar ,has now bought the rights of Badhaai Ho directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, to remake it for the South market. Sources reveal that the producer also collaborates with Amit for his next with Ajay Devgn , a biopic  based on football player and coach Syed Abdul Rahim. The film is set in a village giant temple which is at the periphery of a village. The caretaker Marugavel ( newbie Kishore Ravichandran) and his co worker Ezhuthu ( Thambi Ramaiah) fund strange sounds and movements at night, around them. When Murugavel begins to investigate, he finds a link to his past, namely the mysterious death of his brother and disappearance of a friend's wife. When he begins to find clues and follows up on things, a whole plot of stealing temple wealth is revealed. The developmentsAghavama  takes him  back to mythology and history in an intriguing manner. The story revolves around 3 youngsters ( Anant Nag and his two girlfriends at different stages in his life,played by Anju Kurian and Samyukta Menon). The film revolves around the story of a farmer Selaiyaa (Poo Ram) who has to support his  daughter and her two kids, after she is estranged from her abusive husband. His son resents his father's decision to take her back thus, as he feels she has lowered his social standing and also may end up  getting a share of the family legacy. This resentment puts a great fear of the future and pressure on Selaiyaa whose only goal becomes raising his grandson Ilanga (Ilango) and educating him in a way that would ensure he gets a good job and is able to support his mother and  sister. Based on true events in producer PN Balaram's life, Krishnam is directed by  Dinesh Baboo who has also cranked the camera. The story revolves around the life of loving parents who dote on thier only child, Akshay ( Akshay Krishnan, son of producer Balaraman). The parents are ardent devotees of lord Guruvayurappa. The son is a carefree college goer who loves his parents very much. In the midst of a wonderful life tragedy befalls Akshay one day when he falls ill. The doctors in the hospital declare he needs urgent surgery and has only 1 percent chance of survival. What happens after that,  a miracle, is what is revealed in the film. But we are happy its finally releasing,all thanks to my producer, ' says Selvakannan. ' In everyones life there will be somebody who would have sacrificed a lot so that thier loved ones could live a good life. This film is about such people who sacrifice for us. Everyone will be able to identify someone like that in thier lives.' The theme of the film seems to  highlight the pain of separation of a grandfather with his grandson. Starring Poo Ram, Mime Gopi, Elvis Alexander and Anjali Nair, the folm has music is by Jose Franklin. The film has  lyrics by Vairamuthu and is produced by B Star Productions. The movie releases on March 15th.

Quick Review: Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel  is the story of an extraterrestrial, a Kree warrior, who finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls. She keeps having visions about her past but is unable to sort out the meaning of it all. She has recurring memories of another life as U.S. Air Force pilot Carol Danvers. Thanks to a series of events, she lands up on Earth and  with help from Nick Fury whom she runs into,  she manages to    unravel   secrets of her past. In this journey she realises who her real friends are and learns to harness  her special superpowers for peace. Brie Larson manages to bring out both the strength and vulnerability of Carol and Captain Marvel. Samuel L Jackson as captain Fury is a solid support and thier screen time together makes for some tense, entertaining and  interesting moments. by Rinku Gupta Jumbo Films A Sridhar's Neeya 2 is ready for release. The film stars Jai with 3 heroines, Raai Laxmi, Varalaxmi and Catherine Teresa. The film is directed by L Suresh. A large part of this film has VFX which has been done in lot of detail with special close -ups of snakes. The cameraman is Rajavel Mohan. GN Murugan has done the stunts. Said comedian Bala Saravanan, ' Suresh sir is one of the best people I have met. He would treat big and small actors equally and knows how to extract work from his actors. This film is totally commercial with love, comedy and specially concieved snake episodes.' There are 5 fights in the film which were challenging said stunt master GN. The most challenging was the screen fight between 2 heroines. Heroine Raai Laxmi revealed that it was very difficult to shoot with all the CG work. She also had to work with a live snake. This is my first full love story. I am very satisfied after doing this film. Theres lots of scope for Harish Kalyan's acting in several facets. The story revolves around Shilpa and Harish. by Rinku Gupta Produced and directed by R Kannan, Boomerang is an entertainer espousing a cause.  Story in brief: Shiva ( Atharvaa) injured in a fire, undergoes a face transplant. But his life changes rapidly after that, as he discovers that people are out to kill him. He reckons it must be a case of mistaken  identity,  confusing him because of the face of   Shakti ( previous  Atharvaa whose face was transplanted on him). As the attempts increase, Shiva is now determined to find the truth and let the perpetrators know that he is not who they mistake him for. This task  leads him to Trichy. There he unravels the past of Shakti, an IT guy turned farmer, who had tried to link rivers and help the village farmers. But vested interests ( Upen Patel) had him killed. The story revolves around a group of young boys ( Karate Kaushik, Rehaan and others ) who go to a disco to celebrate a birthday. There they run into a young girl ( Agni Pawar) who is being chased by goons hired by a henchman ( Nasser) who are out to kill her. The youngsters pull her to safety in thier car during the attack and what follows is a long car chase right up to Karnataka. As the goons threaten them with death and even kill one of the boys who goes to fetch diesel, the young lady reveals the reason behind the chase and how she landed in such a dire situation. Hearing her story, the boys vow to help her even at the risk of their lives. Do they manage to take on the dangerous gang? What happens next is the story.
